Student Success & Future Readiness
Reading, writing, mathematics and academic achievement remain fundamental. At the same time, students are entering a world reshaped by AI, automation and changing careers.
Commitment
Prepare students for their next grade and for life beyond graduation through critical thinking, responsible digital and AI literacy, communication, collaboration, adaptability, financial and practical life skills, and awareness of university, college, skilled trades and other pathways.
Good governance means asking the right questions.
Accountability & Responsible Decision-Making
HDSB manages significant public resources, and trustees have an important role in governance and financial oversight.
Commitment
Support responsible, evidence-based decisions focused on student needs by asking what problem is being solved, what outcome is expected, whether resources are being used effectively, and how results will be measured.
Students need the right environment to succeed.
Safe & Supportive Schools
Academic achievement and student well-being are closely connected, and families should understand what support is available and how to access it.
Commitment
Focus on student mental health and well-being, special education, early identification, appropriate support, safe learning environments, and resources that reflect student needs.
Plan ahead. Communicate clearly.
Smart Planning for Burlington Schools
School boundaries, enrolment, facilities and transportation can significantly affect students and families, including through the Burlington Central-Nelson boundary review involving Tecumseh Public School.
Commitment
Approach planning decisions with transparency, evidence, long-term thinking and meaningful community input, recognizing that a boundary is not simply a line on a map.
Listening should lead somewhere.

Effective representation means parents and students should understand what happened with a concern, what can or cannot be done, what decision was made and why.
Commitment
Be accessible, clear and responsive while respecting the difference between governance matters handled by trustees and operational matters handled by HDSB staff.
